Why a vision for Africa?

Many African countries face common challenges in their quest to develop; they share similar political histories, most gained independence around 50 years ago; they have had to go through the daunting challenges of nation building and uniting a people divided along tribal, ethnic and religious lines into a nation state.

Our Vision.
To be a significant catalyst of accelerated and sustainable growth on the African continent.

Our Mission.
To formulate a new leapfrog-based approach to development in Africa built upon collective knowledge and the experiences of a broad spectrum of African leaders. This approach is captured in the Africa 2.0 Manifesto

  • To promote the adoption of the Africa 2.0 Manifesto among African leaders in as many African countries as is feasible
  • To mobilise key stakeholders to undertake targeted actions that are in line with the Africa 2.0 Manifesto
  • To build a community of like-minded emerging and senior African leaders that share the ideals, mission and approach of the Africa 2.0 Manifesto

No African country exists in isolation, our destinies are linked
In order to achieve this, there shouldn’t be  54 separate visions and developmental frameworks. we must have a roadmap, a framework, a plan, a vision. It should be a common outlook that will cross-fertilize respective skills and knowledge to work for the good of all. Africa 2.0 believes that achieving this will require a critical mass of people that understands the issues and are ready to dedicate themselves to the cause.

The Africa 2.0 manifesto – A vision for Africa by the youth of Africa
The Africa 2.0 manifesto is a developmental framework, a collective vision for Africa that proposes suggestions and solutions that transcends borders and addresses common challenges. It is based on  cross-fertilization of knowledge, ideas, experiences; and lessons learnt. It emphasises general interest above individual interest. The manifesto is the brainchild of over 300 young and emerging Africans leaders gathered by Africa 2.0.

A practical, sustainable and actionable framework for development adapted to African realities
The Africa 2.0 manifesto,  proposes suggestions and solutions that addresses common challenges. It is based on a cross-fertilization of knowledge, ideas, experiences; and lessons learned.

The following four fundamental principles underpin the Vision Africa 2020 Action Plan –
(1) Uplifting Africans
(2) Create & Share the Wealth
(3) Upgrade Infrastructure
(4) An Enabling Environment for Growth.

Our approach approach
Africa 2.0 proposes a leapfrog approach in developing the continent. Underlying the leapfrog approach is the premise that should Africa continue with the development model of the Western world, it may take a century to catch up.

How can Africa “Leapfrog”?
In the telecommunications sector for instance, the continent leapfrogged by skipping fixed line telecommunications, rolled out mobile communications and reached more than 50 per cent penetration in less than 10 years (from six per cent penetration in early 2000). As a result, it thus becomes imperative that  Africa thinks out of the box to accelerate its development by leveraging on the most innovative global practices and African success stories capitalizing on its unique position as the last “Global Opportunity” (Time Magazine).

The key success factors will rely on 3 major features:
An African Leadership committed to embracing an Inclusive & Sustainable Growth.
A Social Contract between Government, Private Sector, Tribal leaders and Civil Society to follow the proposed plan.
A Strong Awareness and Mobilization Campaign towards the Youth, Women, and the Diaspora in particular by leveraging on Technology.
